CityLight Church was founded in 2013, but had been in the making for almost a decade prior. In 2005, George and Sarah Williams bought a huge house in a neighborhood that needed a lot of love. Compelled by a simple mandate "to love their neighborhood as themselves," their efforts sparked an urban missionary ministry called The Lewis House. People began to join them, and some even moved into the area to give themselves to loving a community to Jesus. Years into the ministry, the need for a church to complement this outreach became apparent. Matthew 13 talks about the sower and the seed, and George and Sarah felt called to take responsibility for the soil that seeds were being sown into. After much prayer, they felt the calling to plant a new church in Toledo. January 27, 2013 was the first corporate gathering. Here are some photos of that night.

In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells His followers that they have what it takes to be an influence to the world around them. He calls them "The Light of the World" and describes them as a city built on a hill. CityLight's name is derived from that same message, birthed from the desire to be a light in our city.
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
